Where permanence actually lives

  1. Your payload: A link, text, contact, Wi-Fi details or another supported value.
  2. The QR pattern: Static data is written into the modules themselves. That pattern has no timer.
  3. A scanner: A camera reads the same encoded value whenever the printed or saved image remains legible.
  4. The destination: For URL QR codes, the page must still exist and remain accessible.

Static and dynamic solve different jobs

Static QR

The final payload lives in the QR image. Scanfolk does not need to keep a redirect active for the code to reveal that value.

Dynamic QR

A short URL in the QR points to a managed redirect. Its destination can change, but the redirect service must stay active.

  • Editable destination depends on a hosted redirect

  • Scanfolk does not currently offer a public dynamic generator

A non-expiring QR can still stop being useful

  1. The destination is removed: A static URL QR still contains the original address, but that address can return an error or disappear.
  2. The print becomes unreadable: Damage, low contrast, a missing quiet zone or printing too small can prevent cameras from decoding the pattern.
  3. The encoded details become outdated: Static contact, event or Wi-Fi data cannot be edited inside an already printed QR. Create and replace the image instead.

Questions about free and permanent QR codes

Do Scanfolk static QR codes expire?

No timer is added to a direct static QR. The encoded pattern remains the same. A linked website, Wi-Fi password or other real-world destination can still change or stop working.

Is the free QR code really free to download?

Yes. With scan tracking off, direct QR creation and PNG, SVG, PDF or EPS downloads do not require an account or payment.

Do I need to sign up?

Not for a direct static QR. Scan tracking uses a Scanfolk short link and requires an account because the redirect and scan history must be saved.

Can I change the destination after printing?

Not in a static QR: the destination is part of the printed pattern. A dynamic QR can redirect elsewhere, but depends on an active hosted service. Scanfolk does not currently offer a public dynamic generator.

How should I test a permanent QR before printing?

Scan the exported file on more than one phone, then test the real printed size and surface. Keep strong contrast and clear space around the code.
